How to get a free SSL certificate for your website (AutoSSL)

Hosting accounts get free SSL certificates automatically through AutoSSL. The padlock appears in the browser once the certificate is issued.

  1. Make sure your domain points to your hosting (nameservers or A record). AutoSSL cannot issue a certificate for a domain that points elsewhere.
  2. In cPanel open SSL/TLS Status.
  3. Select your domain and click Run AutoSSL. Issuing normally takes a few minutes.
  4. Once you see a valid certificate, open your site with https://.

If your site still shows "not secure", make sure the pages do not load images or scripts over http:// (mixed content) and, for WordPress, that the site address uses https://.

Certificates renew automatically. If you see an error after several attempts, open a ticket.
